The colour purple

August is the time when the heather on the Posbank is in bloom and colours purple. The wild horses are a nice contrast in this colourful world.

Suriname Part 1

For work I spent two weeks in Suriname. This country used to be a Dutch colony and their official language is Dutch. For that reason I was asked to give a training at Staatsolie in Paramaribo.

Fortunately there was some time to explore and take pictures.

This is the first series, hope you enjoy them.

Margraten cemetery

While I was for business in the south of the Netherlands, I visited Margraten. Here is the Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial situated. It is Europe’s third largest war cemetery for unidentified soldiers who died in the second World War. 8,301 soldiers are buried there under long rows of white crosses and stars of David. All graves are adopted by locals, who attend the graves and lay flowers every now and then.

It is very impressive and it makes you very humble to walk along those graves. So many men died for our freedom.

Gieseplas

Next to the little town Giesbeek is the Gieseplas situated. This little lake is connected to the river IJssel.

I went there a couple of times to experiment with composition and long exposure.

Hope you like it.

My last post this year. Have a great Christmas and for you and your family a prosperous new year.

Shortlist Irish times

This year I sent 7 pictures to the ‘Amateur Photographer of year’ contest of the Irish Times. Out of more than 10.000 pictures, 2 pictures out of those 7 were shortlisted.

On top of that, the picture ‘Forest light’ got also a honourable mention in the Nature category.

Obviously I am fully delighted for this recognition.

The pictures that made it to the shortlist were:

Much love and thanks for my girlfriend Jacqui for her support and who persuaded me to send in some pictures.

Autumn scenes

Pictures taken this autumn, that means nature is changing it’s colours, mushrooms are appearing and the weather is changing resulting in fog and dramatic rain clouds.
