2020Storm Jorge
This year started a bit violently with the three storms Ciara, Dennis and Jorge. During the arrival of storm Jorge , I went to Kilfarrasy and to my surprise it didn’t rain at all, what made it a lot easier to shoot the impressive power of the sea. On the beach I met fellow member of the Waterford Camera Club, John Byrne and we were treated with a beautiful sunset as well.
All pictures were shot with my Sigma 70-200 lens.

2020The first outing with the Waterford Camera Club
After moving to Waterford, I joined the Waterford Camera Club. A group of wonderful, talented and inspirational people. I will try to join the group outings as much as possible to share my passion of photography. During the first outing we explored the city for some night photography and some light trails.

2020Sea of opportunities
Here we are, settled in Waterford and having a great time with all the beautiful people here. As we visited Waterford so many times the last 18 years, it feels like home. After saying goodbye to photoclub VeluweOOm in the Netherlands, I was happy to join the Waterford Camera Club (WCC) where I received a very warm welcome. A great club with wonderful and very talented people.
In my last post I mentioned how great is was to have those beautiful woods on your doorstep in the Netherlands. The situation here is much different as Ireland is one of the EU countries with the least amount of woods. In return we get stunning coastlines and breathtaking landscapes, it really opens up a sea of new opportunities for me. During the first 2 months I visited the coast a couple of times and I would like to share some of the images with you. Hope you like them. Enjoy.

2019Autumn of change
During every autumn nature changes. The trees will display the most beautiful colours before they release their leaves to get ready for the winter. For myself this was also an autumn of change by leaving the Netherlands and move to Ireland. I’m looking forward to this new chapter in life together with Jacqui. There are so many things that I’m looking forward to but obviously there are things that I’ll definitely miss. Along drop, Dutch cheese and other things, I will miss the woods on our doorstep. Every autumn it was a feast to have a walk through these woods and this autumn I felt somewhat emotional because I know I will miss this unique area. So please find my last series of pictures of the forest in the Dieren area. Hope you like them.

2019Côte d’Opale
For our annual trip, I went with the Schoorl group to a coastline in the North of France. This stretch of coast is known as Côte d’Opale, named after this gemstone. It is a very divers coast with cliffs and wide beaches, scattered with bunkers build during the Second World War. It is really a gem for many photo enthousiasts.
Our group with Petra, Niels, Stephan, Jan, Arjan, Carla, Frederik and myself was completed with Ed, who is constantly in our heart and mind.
Like the coast, the weather was also very divers: rain, storm, wind, sun and a gentle autumn breeze.
A highlight was our visit to Ambleteuse. There was a severe storm and an ideal opportunity to witness Fort Mahon at high tide with high waves. A challenge to make a picture during this force of nature. It could have been a very expensive holiday when we were surprised by a high wave, but miraculously, the only thing that stayed dry was our equipment. Please find here a footage of this wave.

2019Sketches of China
During a business trip to China last month, I was able to find some spare time to visit some highlights like The Forbidden City, Olympic village and the Great Wall. I was impressed with it all, specially the kindness and hospitality of the people, the food, the crazyness of the traffic, architecture and how advanced their life is. Thank you very much Zhiyong and girlfriend Snow in showing me around in Beijing and Tianjin, Allen for picking me up at the airport and Victor for introducing me in real Chinese food, so much appreciated.

2019The purple haze of August
During August lots of landscape photographers will check out the areas of the blooming heath. After last years drought, I was surprised that the heath recovered so well. Although there were some dark patches, the fields had a lush purple colour. So time to visit some of those beautiful purple fields. Obviously I went to the Posbank, but this year I also went also to the Loenermark, little bit more north of the Posbank.

2019De oversteek
‘De Oversteek’ is the name of a new iconic bridge in Nijmegen over the river Waal. Translated the name means ‘The crossing’ in respect for the US Army 504th Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne Brigade that crossed the river during operation Market Garden in 1944. The bridge was opened in November 2013 and is part of the new ring route of the city.
The bridge has a lot to offer for photographers, during day and night when the bridge is beautifully lit, among 48 lampposts, honouring the 48 heroes that lost their lives during the crossing.
I went to the bridge a couple of times, with the photo club but also on my own. Time to gather some pictures in one post.

2019Ireland July 2019
A short trip to Ireland this time and also half of the time for work. So not many opportunities for exploring with my camera. Still I managed to make some pictures of the River Suir Bridge in Waterford (something that was on my list a long time) and some images taken at several spots along the coast like Garrarus, Benvoy, Ballydowan and Cheekpoint. This time also on my list was a visit to Lismore castle in the west of the county.

2019Men at work
Amsterdam is a bustling city that relies heavenly on its tram system to move people around. Now and again the lines need maintenance/changing.
I was lucky enough to be invited by Fred Rietvink, who manages these kind of challenging projects, to see the demolition of some tram tracks. After the last tram passed, the power lines over the street were switched off. After that a gas cutter was used to separate the parts that should stay and the parts that should be replaced. A large cutting device cut the rails in small pieces. A robot rhino was then used to lift the rail and pull it out of its bolts. Finally the old rails where loaded on to a waiting truck. It needed to be done by a well oiled team because a week later everything needed to be ‘back on track’.
